Solution to soarer r154
#47
I just found out the 1J I bought in Japan is from a MA70 Supra. The seller is also offering me the R154 and Twinplate ORC clutch with it for about $1500 more. (the clutch is fairly new)
Soooo, If I bought this tranny, what would I need to do to make it work on my SC? My car is already manual...
I'm guessing the bellhousing is ok because it's already for a 1J?? So I'd only need the linkage and shifter? What about the driveshaft?
My other option is a JZZ30 R154....there are a few I can pick up but about the same price as the above MA70 R154 minus the ORC twinplate. Would I need a JZZ30 driftshaft with this as well? (I assume so but just want to make sure)
What do you guys think??

roo you are correct in your thinking for the ma70 trans. If the motor doesnt come with the slave cyle ull need that also.
as for the jzz30 you can piece together a ds (it is what you use for both the ma70 converted and the soarer) but you use an mk3 front ds and your stock rear ds.
I think your best choice is the trans that is least beaten-up. sure the clutch is a great clutch but if with this clutch/trans it needs a gear or two replaced from being chewed up or the syncros redone, wouldnt it be worth not having to rebuild it and to get a fresh clutch? If the gilken+ma70 is good, then i say go with that

yeah, i took measurements that the guy instructed me, he made the shaft, and it fit like a glove, perfectly balanced. couldn't be happier. Send me a PM if you want the name of the guy (he also does aluminum and CF driveshafts)

has anyone done this? I'm smack dab in the middle of it and would like to know what other people got for measurements..... I could probably come up with a relativelly inexpensive kit for this if people are interested....
I'd like to know exactly how much material was added to the housing and the shift lever.
