Default A/C system diagnostics- Need codes.

I think I might be little low on freon so I was running the diagnostics as described in the answer to question 59 on the Startrades 101 Soarer/SC FAQ (Heres the link)
http://users.bigpond.net.au/startrade/FAQ/FAQ.html
and it describes running the climate control diagnostics as follows:
"Running the A/C system diagnostics: When switching ignition ON push RECIRCULATION and AUTO buttons together and watch the LCD aircond. system screen normally used for temperature settings for a numerical code indicating the problem area. BTW, zero zero (00) means normal. First, all indicator lights will flash 4 times, then a buzzer beeps. When error codes are displayed a short while later, slower display (step mode by repeatedly pushing Fresh) can be activated by pushing FRESH. Hitting OFF stops the diagnostics."

I did this and it seemed to work as described, but I had to push the recirculate button to use the step mode.

I got an error code 21 and was wondering if anyone had a list of the error codes they could post. It might be helpfull for others.
Thanks,

Lightbulb AC Codes

Stoplight

Code 21 - Open or Short in Solar Sensor Circuit.

Note: If the check is being performed in a dark place, diagnostic code 21 (solar sensor circuit abnormal) could be displayed. In this case, perform diagnostic code check again while shining a light, such as an inspection light on the solar sensor. If code 21 is still displayed, there could be trouble in the solar sensor circuit

I other words a code of 21 is normal if the sensor is not receiving enough light(from the Sun)

Possible causes: Faulty Sensor, Check harness or connector between solar sensor and A/C control panel, or faulty A/C control assy.

Good luck

Thanks gadgetSC,
That would explain it. I did the test in the garage at night with only the dome light on. I still think it could use a shot of freon.

hope you reallly want the freon...
Due to the discontinuation of the production of R-12 freon, the prices have sky-rocketed. I paid $250 for a freon charge last month.

If there is not enough Freon, then there is not enough pressure in the system, which usually gives you error code 23....

I'm going to revive this thread.

I'm almost positive that I have a seized compressor, but it still works in a blue moon.
I ran the diagnostic on the A/C system, and it shows code 00, which I know isn't true. I've even had it run through the system check (by pressing fresh), but it still shows all is well.
I just called PepBoys (I know...) and they quoted my $1,050 to install the new one (NOT including parts) and basically get it going again.
Any thoughts on this?

I was having trouble at first too. Make sure that you press the RECIRCULATION button and AUTO button, THEN turn the ignition to ON. The original post is a little confusing as to the order in which you are suppose to do the setps. Here are the full instructions:

TROUBLE SHOOTING
SELF-DIAGNOSTICS
An Electronic Control Unit (ECU) within A/C-heater control
panel monitors system circuits and stores trouble codes in memory if
problems are detected. All codes, except Codes 22 and 23, are stored
in memory. Malfunction is current if Code 22 or 23 is displayed. To
retrieve stored codes, see RETRIEVING CODES. Codes are displayed at
temperature display. See Fig. 2.
RETRIEVING CODES
1) Simultaneously press and hold AUTO and recirculated air
switches. See Fig. 2. Turn ignition on. All indicators will flash 4
times, at one-second intervals. Tone will sound when indicators flash.
2) A/C system will enter self-diagnostic mode. To end
indicator check, press and release OFF switch. Read codes at
temperature display.
3) If trouble code is displayed, proceed to appropriate
trouble shooting procedure. See DIAGNOSTIC CODE IDENTIFICATION table.
Codes are displayed in ascending order. To slow rate at which codes
are displayed, press fresh air button to change display to step
operation. Each time fresh air button is pressed, display changes by
one step.
4) If tone sounds as code is displayed, problem currently
exists. If tone does not sound as code is displayed, problem occurred
in past and does not presently exist.
Code Diagnosis
00 ................................................ Normal
11 (1) ............. In-Vehicle Temperature Sensor Circuit
12 (2) ................ Ambient Temperature Sensor Circuit
13 ................. Evaporator Temperature Sensor Circuit
14 .................... Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit
21 (3) .............................. Solar Sensor Circuit
22 (4) .................... Compressor Lock Sensor Circuit
23 (4) ........................... Pressure Switch Circuit
31 .................. Air Mix Door Position Sensor Circuit
32 ................ Air Inlet Door Position Sensor Circuit
33 ............... Air Outlet Door Position Sensor Circuit
41 ....................... Air Mix Door Servomotor Circuit
42 ..................... Air Inlet Door Servomotor Circuit
43 .................... Air Outlet Door Servomotor Circuit
(1) - If in-vehicle temperature is -4 F (-20 C) or less,
Code 11 may set even though system is normal.
(2) - If outside air temperature is -58 F (-50 C) or less,
Code 12 may occur set though system is normal.
(3) - If testing is done in a dark area, Code 21 may set
even though system is normal. Shine a light at solar
sensor and recheck codes.
(4) - Malfunction is current. Code is not stored in memory.

ACTUATOR CHECK
1) Perform step 1) of RETRIEVING CODES. When system enters
self-diagnostic mode, press recirculated air button. Each mode door,
motor, and relay will operate at one-second intervals. Press fresh air
button to display codes one at a time, and perform step-by-step
actuator check.
2) Check airflow and temperature by hand. Tone will sound
each time display code changes. Each display code is associated with a
system operating condition. See Fig. 3 or 4. Press OFF button to
cancel actuator check mode.

Also, what do error codes 41 and 42 actually mean?

Ok i jus did this and im getting code 21. I did do it at night so thats prolly why i got the 21.

Then i did the Actuator check by pressing the recirculating button again and it read codes 20-27 . Can someone with a working a/c pls do the actuator test so i can compare. Is there an Actuator code identification chart???

Im new, what does this all mean??? seems im having the same prob as hemogoblin. DO i just need freon or is there something wrong. Anyone pls chime in. k thanks
