Default Anyone tried/know about the new SSautochrome parts?

OK heres the link: http://www.ssautochrome.com/level.itml/icOid/1355

Go about half way down the screen, where you'll see and turbo mani for a NA supra...or SC300.

I know about how crappy their stuff used to be, but their new specs are pretty good.

Main key points from their spec sheet:
1. 2.9mm thick tubing
2. 321 Stainless Steel
3. $750 IIRC

That would seem to be a pretty good mani and from all the picture I have ever seen from them their welds always were pretty good. Could it be they had a major change in Engineering Design? Lets hope.

Any thoughts or experences?

PS. As I reread the specs, I remembered my reading comprehension is pretty crappy. Could they be referring to the flange specs? Maybe I shall send them an email for more detailed specs of all flanges and tubing.

SS Autochrome from what I hear is decent, their fitment isn't perfect, but my rx7 mechanic was running a SS Autochrome mani on his 400hp+ bridgeported FC

I searched both here and on Supraforums, and the posts were about 90% that they sucked, and the other few were people who had no problems. I would like to know how people have faired recently as the price is great!

from what i heard from ppl using them on SR's.. u need to weld on extra braces (they dont have any on there to make em look pretty). Once u weld some support braces on for the weight of the turbo, they work beautiful and never have problems.

SS autochrome have been really crappy in the past. Manifolds cracking, poor fitment, turbos falling of the manifold. Thier turbos are glued together .

I've seen some recent pieces for other cars that actually look good. You can find the manifold with downpipe and intake pipe for less than $400 on ebay.

a SF member recent dyno'd around 700 rwhp using just stuff he bought off of ebay.

I've heard that if you weld on some support brackets for the manifold, it should do quite well... expensive manifolds crack too, so you're taking a risk either way.

If you do an in-depth search on SF, you'll see some pictures of people who are actually using them, and they, to my knowledge, haven't had any problems yet.

the bad rap seems to have come from some honda owners with low-mounted turbo manifolds.

if the entire thing is made of 321, and the welds look decent, you should be in a good shape.

PS: a member of SF who does something like aeronautical materials (welds and so on) analysis wrote up his review over there as well.

I had one of their manifolds and downpipe on my sr20det. Never cracked or warped. Its really hit or miss with them and they are impossible to get a hold of if you have a problem. A flexible downpipe is a must if you want it to last longer.

They have tons of them on ebay for like 199 now compared to the price on their site of 750.

buy it, re-weld it to reinforce it and get it coated. It will last just as long as a brand name one if not longer
