Default help with cold start

Whenever in the morning or afternoon (not even cold, 80 degrees), when I crank a cold start, the engine sounds like its choking. I have to turn the key 2-3 times to get it started, and when it does start, the cylinders fires one bye one. So it start out at 100 rpm then takes a second to go up to 1100 rpm. What could this mean?

Sounds like a dead...
* Starter motor
* Alternator
* Battery

to me... I remember my old Soarer TT would have a hard time trying to start (it was in spring weather) and the revs would slowly rise from 400RPM to 700RPM on idle because of a deep fried battery.

Battery! Very probable. (alternator repalced 5k ago) I noticed my clock was reset as well. That means the battery was completely dead at one time. I wonder how the engine fired up though.

Thanks.

No probs, hopefully it is the battery, as then it's not too expensive to fix/replace.

When my battery was on it's last legs, every time I'd go to start the car, instead of getting a healthy sounding starter motor (ie. the starter motor doesn't seem to be labouring to badly) it sounded like the starter motor was having a real hard time trying to start it (as in the starter motor sounded like it was going to give up).

I can't remember if my clock ever reset itself but the way you describe the car slowly rising the revs at idle is kinda similar.

Good luck!

how's the humidity like over in Michigan? When you check your battery, check to see if any corrosion has occured due to any acid. I just had to replace my terminals and when ahead and put a new battery on my ES300 not to long ago.

I just installed a optima red top.
What a difference.
1. When I start the car, the engine turns at least 20 times faster than it used to.
2. Idles and accelerates so much smoother.
3. I don't get the whole dash blinking when the turn signal is on.
4. Less noise from speakers at high volume.

Thanks everyone.
