Default 5sp to 6sp swap questions

It looks like I'm doing a 5 speed to 6 speed swap and after reading all I can find I still have a couple of questions.

I will also be putting in a 6-speed tt rear end and RPS Max street clutch. I think I understand the issues with the shifter and the slave cylinder. The car will be used for road racing with 350-450 rwhp.

What is the best route regarding the drive shaft --- modify a SC300? modify a TT ? complete custom?

Do you think it is necessary to upgrade the drive belt tensioner?

Do you need to change the right rear axle or only the left?

Any other words of wisdom from those who have BTDT?

Thanks

Jon

if you use a 6 speed rear end, you have to use the 6 speed driveshaft. I extended mine and so have a lot of people, but i reccomend getting a one piece made.

Supposedly only one of the TT half-shafts is needed (left side?); however, I've heard that the TT half-shafts are beefier than the SC ones, so you might as well swap in both sides. I have not seen a side by side comparison, so am not sure. Besides a drive shaft, you will also need a flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate...

We have never had much luck with a one piece D/S, seen alot of vibration problems. My SC has a extended 6 spd drive shaft. SW has one too. The car that ran 10.1 @ 144. I think that speaks for the strength of a 2 piece. Jon, I can have one built for you. Just give Zohair or Kean a call.

I don't know about for cheap.

The cheap ones all seem to need a rebuild which would probably add $2k if you can't do it yourself.

Ryan Woon (WOTM) has one around $3500 (after he has it rebuilt) and Sherbaz (search supra forums) has a brand new one he says has never been driven or raced which you can get for less than $4,000.
