2JZGTE Supra Turbo short block
hello, i am about to buy a 1996 sc300 auto with 212k miles on it, i want to go the NA-T route in the near future and i found a place that sells the 2JZGTE Supra Turbo short block for $2000 brand new with pistons, rods crank and all. now my question is could i remove my old sc300 block and just drop this one in or is there something else i need to do? or would it be a direct bolt on? any help would be great.

Plug and play. It will bolt right in. Why do you want to get the short block anyway? There aren't many differences between the GE block and the GTE block. Unless you are looking to make upwards of 700RWHP, you don't need it.

There are GE blocks running over 600RWHP. The GE block and GTE block are nearly identical. The GE doesn't have the oil squirters and the coated pistons, but the rest is the same. The JZ series motor gets it compression via the head gasket so all you need is a head gasket and an NA-T turbo kit.

why spend $2000 on a gte block when you can get a 1JZ clip for the same price and get a whole motor, tranny, ecu, harness, intercooler, ect.? i just dont see the point to spending all the money if you dont have too.

i know about the sc300's running more then 500 RWHP but my question is could an engine with over 180k miles handle the same amount of power and still be reliable for a long time?

It depends completely on how it was maintained. There are people pushing well over 400RWHP on 120K+ motors just fine. The 1JZ or 1.5JZ are great options too. All you need for either is a complete 1JZ swap and at 1K-2K for a front clip, it has the bang for the buck advantage.

you can get a new head from the dealer... again i ask why? if your willing to spend $2k for a new block and about $1500 for a new head, and another $4k for a turbo kit, thats your perogotive, but if your asking me... i can think of better ways to spend about $7500 and go fast!! for that kind of money, you could have a single turbo'ed 2JZ-GTE and a V160 6-speed. just something to think about......

Think about it. He would have to spend way more money to get a "used" motor, do way more work to install it, and get less results than he will with the 2JZ-GTE shortblock.

um right...... im not trying to convince him of anything... just that it would be cheaper to go that route. its common sence, why spend o much money on a new block and head and turbo kit if you can get a motor for les than half the cost. as far as the swap being a lot of work.... you have obviously never done one.... its really not that bad aside from wiring... and that just takes time. im not anti NA-t, i am just trying to open his eyes to cheaper options. that is all.

So you're telling me I wasted my time and money when I sold my 1JZ to build my 2JZGTE?
