If the ticking is constant it could be the lifters.

i changed the oil about 500 kays ago and its still there the old oil was black as all hell and had bits in it....i was thinking that maybe from sitting so long some crap had build up on the lifters and such... i was told that maybe one of the oil holes in the lifts (if there is such a thing) may be cloged with this crap.. i put some oi cleaning stuff in the egine b4 we changed it done about 500 kays with that in the oil.. it helped a little.. im thinking i should do it again...
if it is the lifter what can i do to fix it
cheers

I have heard with the SC400 at least, you need to change the valve shims to fix the ticking. It isn't a cheap job either. It is $300-400 for parts alone. That is why mine ticks and probably will for a while. However, you can try using a heavier weight oil, or a thick additive like Valvoline SynPower and see if it helps at all. Right now I am using M1 EP 5W-30, which is very thin, and therefore my ticking is very audible.

Hmm... Those Hydrolic Tappered (?) lifters will cause a tick to occur when the car has been sitting for some time. After driving it for quite a while, the ticking should eventually go away. Please correct me if I'm wrong...

I would change that oil again with Moble 1 or some synthic oil. If it had that much stuff in it. Its not all out. And drive it like someone said. You using the Lexus Toyota filter ?
