Default New alternator hot

I just replaced my alternator due to a leaky PS pump. It's a rebuild, The car idled for 10 minutes and the alternator is extreamly hot. A little bit of smoke came of it when I first started. Is this normal, how hot should it get?

That is NOT normal. I just had to have mine rebuilt and the alternator shop did an awesome job on it and its better than ever. Yours is probably a bad/faulty/cheap rebuild and is being overworked. Return to wherever you got it and tell them whats goin on, you'll either get another replacement or just get a whole 'nother brand all together

I talked to the shop I bought this alternator from and they suggested that there may be something electrically wrong with my car that is causing the laternator to overheat. Is this possible? Any suggestions before I send this back?

Thanks
