Default 97' SC300 timing belt question

Is it a timing belt or timing chain on these engines and when do they need to be replaced? Car didnt come with a manual. TIA

timing belt. not sure what the intervals are for changing, but if it breaks, you wont damage the valves.

and you can get a free manual directly from Lexus, do a search in Classifieds/Great deals section

and somebody yell - search! lol

I searched with the word "timing" in this forum and it said "no results" oh well

well, toyota recommends service every 60K miles, my timing belt was replaced at 84K and i'm at 125K now, i dont plan on replacing it for at least another 30K
1UZ and 2JZ are hell of a good motors, if it has a genuine toyota belt, it will go 80-90K easily, people have gone over 120-130K on same belt and i dont think you will find a post here with a broken timing belt story
