Default transmission whinning..did search

hi, i did a search but only found one thread but didnt have a definite answer for my problem.
i have a 94 sc 5spd...130k miles..transmission whins or whirls on acceleration, even when idling, i have a short shifter and thought it was the short shifter making noise, but doesnt seem like it, could it be motor mounts? tranny mounts? or transmission..thanks for your time and any help is appreciated. =) sorry mods if there is a thread about this, but couldnt find it. thanks again

My radio makes that whining noise you described even when my car is idling...Tranny noise is not a common problem for these cars...Maybe it's not your tranny thats causing the problem..

my radio makes the whining noise with the radio off and increases when i accelerate. but then again i have an aftermarket amp and maybe have wired it bad. just make sure the whining isnt comming from your speakers.

How does the noise change when you press in the clutch pedal?
Short shifters are nice but are known to be hard on the tranny. (It's not the actual short shifter that's hrash, it's the use of it )

If the noise does not change when you press is your clutch, it's obviously not the transmission.
I have a similar sound.....like something spinning really fast and when I press in the clutch I hear it quickly slowing to a stop.
When, if ever, was the clutch changed?
When is the last time you put in fresh gear oil?

thanks for all the help guys. im pretty sure its not my radio, in fact i think i know what it is. when the clutch is depressed, the sound slightly fades, so it is i n the transmission. since there is that spinning whirling noise, it shouldnt be the tranny, it is probably a bearing. most likely the throw out bearing is messed up. i hope that this doesnt mess up the synchro of my tranny or i have to rebuild it. sigh, i hope its not that serious. thanks for all your help, more advice is greatly appreciated. =)

Hmmmmm.....Where in California are you located?
If you're in NorCal I can meet up with you and we can compare noises.
If you're in SoCal, you can meet up with someone there.

Is it noticeably loud or is it just something you wish wasn't there?

I had a P/S hose go bad and the pump made a similar noise.
I don't have a M/T so I wouldn't know off the top of my head but - do the SC3's have a throwout bearing?

if its the throw out bearing then usually the noise will go away when you step on the clutch. my throw out bearing makes chirping noises on idle but goes away when i step on the clutch slightly. yours doesnt sound like that the case. so either your throw out bearing is really messed up or its something else.
