V8 manual & V8 turbo!
If anyone has seen the new Sport Compact Car it has the IS430 in there being tested on the track. It has the GS430 4.3 liter 8 bolted to a six speed getrag from the MKIV supra! And its running fine. Pulled a 14.0 flat in the quater. It gave me the weird idea that if Rod Millen was able to bolt up a six speed to the 1UZ-FE how hard would it be to follow his steps on the 4.0 1UZ-FE?
They also had a turbocharged SC430 with 20X11 Dubs on the back push 400rwhp! and gobs of torque with the stock automatic? Its there stage one kit. how much diffferent is the 3UZ(SC430 engine) than the 1UZ-FE we all run in our cars! Do you think it the 3UZ could fit the SC400? And when is one of these damn magzines going to show the SC400 some love? I even saw an es330 in there promoting a new spring company

In my opinion, the biggest problem bolting up a manual transmission to a sc400 is the ecu. The mechanical stuff is easy. I believe the aussies have a kit to bolt our 1uzfe up to a getrag. Rod Millen had an easier time with the manual because the IS300 already came in manual.
If it were up to me to install a 6 speed, I would just yank the whole computer system and start from scratch. The cost (money, time) is quite expensive. Off the top of my head, I think a Haltech costs around $5k.
Most people are better off just saving the money and buying a WRX.

basically what this means is
1. the stock ECU will control all non-drivetrain related electronis
2. haltech will control the engine, fuel and air
3. you will need to get a matching ECU for the manual tranny you will get
there was a thread in supraforums about going from Automatic supra to getrag 6 complete with labor was average of $10k

The stock ECU is not a big problem. Basically just take care of the neutral start switch with a combination of clutch and handbrake switches, and your car will run. May need to add some speedo signal work but that's secondary.

There's 2 V8 manual Soarers I know of here in Sydney... both with the W58 5spd box... from what I hear it's well suited to the 1UZ motor... so guys go out there and find your W58's and slap em on!

Fred and Soarer 2.5GT,
Do you have a phone number for this shops so that I can call and get pricing and try to make it happened on a US spec SC400 if the pricing is reasonable. As could you tell me were to contact one of those "blokes" as you guys say, that has a V8 Manual?

Philly,
PM the details of what you're looking for, I'll pass you off to the people you want
* My mechanic looks after one of the manual V8 Soarers
* An ALSC club member fitted the manual into the V8
* Another club member is LOVING the manual!
I'll just have to find the contact details for you.
