Exclamation

FYI!!! I have a 95 SC400 that had developed a spooky grinding or buzzing noise at low speed when the throttle was pressed. It sounded almost like something from under the hood.

I took the car to the dealer and they suggested it was the catalytic converter and wanted big bucks!

So I took the car to Meineke and they found it to be a number of heat shields had come loose. They spot welded the shields back together and the noise is gone! Only 40 bucks!

A friend of mine has an SC300 and he was having the same problem so I suspect this might be a common problem so don't get ripped off!

I have the same problem on my 93 sc300 and i think it makes the car sound cheap . I will try what you did to fix the problem. At least its not the engine or tranny. Can i do it myself . And if possible can you post some pix. And is it okay if you just remove the heat shield altogether?

I am REALLY hoping this is what is doing it. Sounds kinda like a metal fan hitting a radiator right? I mostly hear it when its cold but occasionally hear it when its warm.

HA Fixed! It was a heat shield that was loose on the passenger side exhaust pipe! It was hitting on the exahaust to make it rattle. I bent it down slightly (not A LOT) and it doesnt hit the exahaust anymore! Im so relieved, was starting to annoy me and make my car sound like crap.
