Default 1jz or 2jz

Hey guys i have found a 1jz with auto tranny ecu intercooler for 1600 bucks? For an SC400 should i get the 1jz or should i get the 2jzgte? What do you all think? How hard is it to swap a 2jz into the sc400?

depends on your cash pile. The gte of course will have more power but it's not an easy task to swap in a whole new engine, harness, ecu, etc. rather than working with the drivetrain that was meant for a particular car. To avoid issues (like having to get your cluster recalibrated) go with the 1jz...to get power, and if you have access to great tuning equipment, go with the gte. It's all about your goals and your budget.

I'd love to have either one! Personally I'd like to play around with a 1jz, and some of the aftermarket turbo upgrades for it....

if you are willing to put up with a lil bit of frustration but with a lot of happiness, i would say 1JZ cuz of money differences.

The sc300 is the easier candidate for a swap because of the similarities between the engines. The sc400 has the tranny/engine ECU in one making it harder with wiring.

Does anyone know what other parts are needed other than the swap itself for it to be up and running in a 300. I too have been looking into this swap because of the price difference. I know with the 2jz you need a handful of parts from a US spec 2jz, not to mention most people will not recommend doing the swap with a jdm motor which drives the cost even higher. I know unless you are going from auto to auto with the 2jz you need a 6 speed wiring harness which itself is like 600 and up from what ive seen. I know a 1jz should just drop right in and fields and other companies sell a wiring harness extender so in a sense it seems like it is just plug and play. My question is has anyone actually done the swap and know of any parts not included in the swap that I would need. Please I do not want to hear the whole get a 2jz it is not in my budget and I am well aware of it being harder to find 1jz parts but I already have found a site that tells you what parts you can get in the states that will work in it and I also have a good friend in AUS that should be able to get me anything else.

hey boobstar do you plan on using the auto tranny with the 1jz or are you going to use a r154 tranny or v160? Can you match a v160 getrag bellhousign with the 1jz motor? yea if someone out there has a list of stuff needed for the 1jz swap that would rock. thanks

http://www.ultimatelexustt.com/ here is a manual made by a member here on the board...you must purchase it to see anything of the work you need to do for wiring in the 300. you can reuse many of your stock parts (ac, alternator, etc) in the swap and i also know that on some 1jz motors you need to change out a hydrolic cooling fan for an electric or a usdm tt. other than that its pretty much a straight drop in.

the getrag will fit up to a 1jz...the bellhousings are the same. the r154 needs to be from one of the rare 5 speed soarers because the usdm mkIII have the shifter go into the top of the tranny while the soarer has an extension type mechanism to allow for the extra length.

go here for the 1jz into a mkIII you can make easy conclusions on what parts ull need

Unfortunately I believe from what I have heard that that manual only covers a 2JZ into a 300 and a US spec at that. The link was good however it was talking more about going into an mkiii which is not an SC. I really need to know how to distinguish the differances in the 1jz motors and again if I can just drop it in. The shell I am getting is a 5 speed shell which is missing engine, tranny, and driveshaft. I believe all it does have is a Supra TT rear end. I guess I really need to know if I find a soarer front clip would that be all I need with the exception of the harness extender???

neither a 1jz or 2jz will fit into an sc400 unless you make custom motor mounts.. If you had an sc300 it will bolt right in

If the car is in the west palm area and is white and red, it has a welded diff.

There are ways around the expense of a 2jz swap. I bought my head with 6 speed harness for 800, the head come complete with everything i needed, then i bought my block for 400. I know you don't want to hear the "go 2jz, not 1jz" but there are reasons for this. Sure i wanted to go 1jz for the price etc, i found all the parts, i had someone to do the wiring etc etc. Then i fouind the 2jz, and went from there.

I have the manual you are refeering to and will give a helping hand if needed. I also know a few people who have done this swap.

Don't you need supra motor mounts anyway for the sc300??
