Question Oil pan of my 93 SC300

My Lexus dealer tells me I need a new oil pan the next time they change the oil. They tell me that the plug is almost stripped out and I will need a new pan. Are they being truthful with me or are they trying to make some extra money for themselves? My car has 118000 miles on it and is a 5 speed and I love it. So we are guessing the oil has had anywhere from 20 to 25 oil changes since new. That means the oil plug has been removed at least that many times also. I guess the threads must be about gone. What do you all think? They want $300 for the new pan and labor. Is that a fair price? Thanks, I am a newbie to this forum. Captain57

The threads will last forever as long as the person doing the oil change doesnt cross thread the plug. If I were you, I would buy a new plug (not pan...just the plug) first, and next time the oil needs to be changed, do it yourself and you decide whether it needs it or not

Happened to me a few years back, and I paid $450. There are alternatives, its up to you.

I was told that there was a product(some kind of bolt) that was made just for this kind of problem. It was also suggested that I could drill and tap the hole for a slightly larger that the existing hole, It doesnt sound like a bad idea. hope this helps.

Either drill and tap it and use a larger plug, or use a good FIPG on it when you put the plug back in.
