what is the "L" gear on the auto SC3?

also, what exactly does POWER ETC button do? the previous owner said it gives an extra boost, but waste more gas.

L = 1st
2 = 2nd (1st & 2nd)
OD off = 3rd (1st, 2nd, & 3rd)
D = 4th Gear (1,2,3 and 4)

Power ETC lets the tranny go all the way to redline before shifting, and I believe gives you a slightly more aggressive fuel curve... not postive, but I know it changes the shift points to be more aggresive.



EDIT: I wish that button gave you boost.

cool thanks, but OD is just a button for 3rd? I got my car with it pushed in, so I think I'll just leave it that way.

According to the owners manual, you'll get better gas milage if you drive w/ the overdrive on, and the power ETC switch off. Since I don't like to drive fast anyways, I follow the owners manual. If you want better gas milage, you should use 5w-30 motor oil. I notice I get better gas milage using Mogil 1 fully synthetic oil 5w30. I use 10w30 now because to me, my car runs smoother and is quieter with the thicker oil, but poorer gas milage.
