The people who use his TC don't seem to have any problems. It should hold up pretty well unless you plan on making over 350 whp. The PI TC is a heavy duty piece that can handle more power. The PI TC costs around $900 new. Lextreme sells those professionally reconditioned. You make the call.

You're not going to get any HP gains from a TC but you will see an accelaration increase. With a 2800 rpm stall most SC400 owners see a .5 second improvement in 1/4 mile times. Not bad for the money.

A TC basically stops the transmission from engaging under full throttle, till it hits a certain rpm. That rpm limit is the stall. The stock "stall" on most SC400's is around 1800rpm. Raising the stall to 2800rpm means your launching the car harder with more power.
Next time your driving and noones around try this. Stop the car. Press the brake hard with your left foot and then slowly apply the throttle. The tach will go up until it hits around 1800rpm. If you had an aftermarket TC it will go up until you hit the programmed stall limit.
