Default Injen cold air intake vs cone style K&N

Would I benefit much by gettin an injen intake? I drive a 95 sc400 and I have a K&N cone intake now.(I also have a full exhaust set up with 2.5" piping and an x-pipe) Does having the chrome piping help a lot more? Is it worse just having the cone intake and no heat shield? I can't modify my stock box cause I no longer have it. Also I hate to sound like an idiot but what's a "bfi"? I searched thru a ton of threads that talk about it but never define it. Thanks

Andy

You are better off going with a drop-in filter and going with the BFI mod. The chrome intake will just suck up all the heat in the engine bay. There is someone on the board who made a cold air intake for the sc400 if i remember correctly. Just keep searching, it will come up.

What is BFI?

one question about your injen...does the injen adaptor have a rectangular opening or a circle opening "face" touching the MAF adaptor...b/c the MAF adaptor has a rectangular opening....

The adapter injen supplies is basically a round piece of metal where the filter bolts onto and that goes into a rectangle plate which bolts onto the MAF. Not the best for airflow.

Stock is best..I have a Injen, it doesn't do much...Just sits there and looks good for you...Once and awhile I'll give you a nice DEEP engine noise, but thats about it..

Default BFI Mod

Did the BFI to my 93 SC400.
What a difference in power.
They say this mod gets you 10-15 Extra Horse Power.
Feels more like about 30-40.
Definitely best mod for the Air Intake.
Whole mod cost me less than $15.
Used Stanless Steel bolts and washers on the intake scoop.
SS is probably the way to go on the scoop mod as they do get wet in the rain.

was in the same boat as you andy, i have to admit the bfi is the better way to go but since i already bought the injen, i mite as well use it. so what i did was make a cold airbox around that whole area, and sprayed some heat resistant liquid on it. then i took another piece of metal and made a sort of scoop from the area next to the passenger fog light to the air box. much better than the intake alone with the dinky heat shield injen gives.

sorry took me a while to get the dig camera, but here are the pics of my cold air box with the scoop. it's kind of badly made but it suffices, i plan on making it a cleaner design when i get the time.
