ok guys like the title says and what the picture shows I'm pointing to. What is this. EGR is right under this, but this thing rattles like its no body's business. It drives me crazy. So, what is it and what does it do?

check the vacuum line diagram, I though it was like a valve for the egr.

Its part of the egr, I can tell you how to fix it, it is held up by a metal clamp on the side, and a large vac hose underneath it. pull it out of metal clamp, bend metal clamp inwards some so it will helpfully hold it tighter, make sure the bottom hose goes back on the metal line right when reinstalling (also helps hold it up), and make sure it goes in the clamp tight and passes the wiggle test. It should stop rattling then.

you can also try and mount it another way, but likely its rattling against the metal thing holding it. sometimes just bending it some will fix the problem. mine would rattle on my valve cover breather until I did that.
