Default Navigation Help - detour

I have not had a chance to dig through the manuals but a quick look through the menus did not provide the answer so hoping someone here can help.

The nav system as set by default seems very resistant to recognizing I want it to adjust on the fly so to speak and guide me from the new road I've taken. For example I put in a destination address then partway through the trip I take a different road than planned, either b/c I see traffic ahead, there is a detour, there is a new road or bridge it doesn't know about (like near my house), or I just want to take a more interesting driving road for part of the trip.

My phone nav, Google maps, will adjust pretty quickly to give me the best new route. Enform just repeatedly instructs me to make a U-Turn back to the original route...seemingly even past logical distance to do so.

On a recent road trip I tried deleting the original destination and re-entering but evidently if you do that while not in Park you can't select from multiple routes. It was a bit frustrating. Any setting to help with this?

Most NAV systems will adjust, but even still most want to keep you on the "Fastest" route, or whatever route type you selected to be used. If you turn off and it doesn't know a road it probably can't do much to readjust. If you turn off and it does know the road but it recalculates and find that the old way is faster it is going to try and get you back to it.

I know on my portable TOM TOM there is a "Detour" button I can press and it will recalculate a new route on a different set of roads. I haven't looked at the NX NAV system to see if it has that or not, something you can check though.
