Default Opinions on wheel selection

My NX should be here in two weeks. I am planning on ordering the wheels now and getting them installed day one. So I'm split between two wheels at this point. I am planning on getting 20x9 and they are going on a Nebula Gray Fsport.

The first one is in matte black and the second is anthracite. I'm not sure if the anthracite will clash with nebula gray color and if the matte black will be too dark overall? I can't decide between the two??? Any opinions or suggestions? Thanks.

Even though these two are an IS, maybe this will help. Basically, do you want contrast or a match...

Personally, I'd prefer a contrast, so the black wheels gets my vote on NGP. Also, I'd get black lug nuts, not chrome.

Yeah, I was about to order the matte black. A friend sent me a picture of the anthracite ones and it made me think again. I wish the trim around the wheel wells was color matched on the NX.

Thanks for the replies and the comparison pictures.

It's a tough choice and I was in the same situation as you since I didn't want pure black (on Obsidian would be too much black for me) yet I didn't want gray wheels...

Which is why I took both colors and made "Midnight Graphite" but not an easy pill to swallow for majority of folks who buy new wheels only to sand them down and repaint them.

If DIY is out (and I don't blame you since it's risky ruining a new set of wheels), consider if you want the look of:

1. NGP--> black (wheel arch) --> black (tire)-->gray wheel
vs
2. NGP--> black (wheel arch) --> black (tire)-->black wheel

I'd go with the matte black. Very tempted at the moment to upgrade the wheels to 19 or 20s.

Neither, I would stick with the 18's from personal experience. I noticed on my IS that the low profile tires make it much easier to biff the rims on curbs, etc. Just my personal experience and 2 cents.

love the black!!!!!!

It makes it look clean and OEM without being too much.

I had a question. It's a very DUMB question, but I have never even considered aftermarket rims ever.

Did you purchase your NX with F sport Rims 18 inches and you just found a place online that you liked and swapped them out??

What a buzz kill

Learn to drive and stop running over things? That will probably fix your low profile issue...

OP, I would say matte black, but keep in mind, black wheels get dirty instantly. So how often do you want to clean them? Also, Matte paint is harder to match aftermarket. So chips will be harder to hide.

There are places that swap wheels?

Otherwise no, you buy rims, and then attempt to sell your old ones.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I just got the specs and info from Corrado about proper fitment. Started researching companies that make rims with proper specs, found a few designs that I liked and went to a local shop and started dealing.

There is actually a shop here locally that will trade-in your OEM wheels and tires as long as they are "new". They are only willing to give me $300-$400 for them, but I would rather get a few hundred towards the new wheels/tires. I'm sure I could get more selling them myself. But I despise selling things through the classifieds, and don't what the other set sitting around taking up space.

Very interesting. They low balled the living day lights out of you though...

I've never understood the attraction to black wheels. They make the car look cheap to me. It reminds of the days when cars had wheelcovers and what it looked like if you lost one...you would be driving around with a black rim. So I think they look horrible on a new car no less. Sure...I have seen them at the dealer this way, but I still think they look awful.

What's interesting is I felt the same way and I still somewhat do but only on say a white car with matte black wheels. From far looks like winter steelies. But that too is growing on me if the wheel is styled right on a nice car...
