Cars from the 1980s you might think are faster than the NX (but aren't)
I've only been on the Lexus forum for a little while. But I'm frankly so excited to be joining the Lexus family, I thought I'd indulge in this just for fun
Something we tend to forget is just how far car performance has come over the years. Modern SUVs/Crossovers now have performance far superior to cars of decades past. But even in terms of pure acceleration, a modern crossover will outpace a lot of classics.
If you know cars well, you won't be surprised by the following.
But if you still find "sporty appearance" alluring, you may be.
Using a little pocketbook calls "Cars" (published in 1987) that I owned as a boy, and which is filled with spec sheets of many sports cars available in 1987, here are a few cars the NX 200t F-Sport will match or surpass for speed alone...
2015 Lexus NX 200t F-Sport
0-60mph = 6.9 seconds
Compared to...
Ginetta G32
0-60mph - 7.2 seconds
TVR S Convertible
0-60mph - 7.0 seconds
Toyota Supra 3.0i
0-60mph - 7.7 seconds
Toyota MR2 T-Bar
0-60mph - 7.7 seconds
Porsche 944s
0-60mph - 7.9 seconds
Mazda RX-7
0-60mph - 8.5 seconds
Lotus Excel S.A.
0-60mph - 8.6 seconds
1983 Porsche 911 Cabriolet
0-60mph - 6.9 seconds
1983 Lamborghini Jalpa
0-60mph - 7.2 seconds
1982 Ferrari 308 GTS
0-60mph - 7.2 seconds
Only a fraction (0.1) quicker than the NX, are these next two...
1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 2
0-60mph - 6.8 seconds
Ferrari Mondial
0-60mph - 6.8 seconds
And finally, the NX is not faster than this either.
But consider that it is less than 2 seconds behind, and according to my old books, the Testarossa was only rated for 5.8 seconds back in 1987 (only 1.1 faster). Although other online figures today do rate it for 5.0 seconds. Still slower than a Porsche Macan Turbo.
Ferrari Testarossa
Feel free to add more, if you think of any

This isn't overly surprising, the 1980s was a rather poor time for cars considering we were on the back half of the oil crisis and the bull%#(*$ emissions standards.
