Default Lexus NX vs BMW X4

While publications have compared the Lexus to the Q5, X3, GLK, and RDX I am thinking it is more like an X4. The cargo space for the 2 is almost identical. The X4 base engine is 240 hp and 260 torque (similar to the 235 hp and 258 torque in the NX). Has anyone else cross shopped or compared the 2?

I looked at the X4 online, too. However, not looking at possible discounts it would be about $10,000 more! Need to test drive!

My wife sat in both at the recent International auto show that came to Charlotte two weeks ago. The X4 is smaller in the back seat and seems more confined. I have owned many BMWs in the past and really wanted her to consider it vs. the NX but she shot that down as soon as she sat in it as the seats are a LOT harder (due to the sport nature of German seating) vs. the "softer" feel of the more luxury-oriented NX and ES vehicles.

The X4 is NOT available in a Hybrid version so if fuel economy is important, the NX is the way to go. Fuel economy is my wife's #1 requirement so unless it gets a MINIMUM of 30MPG, she isn't interested so that was a second strike against the X4 for her.

I would also expect that the handling will also be significantly different but we won't get to drive the NX until the preview event tomorrow morning so won't be able to give you any feedback on that aspect until then.

They are both sharp looking vehicles and either would look nice (to me) in our garage.

I think the X3 is still the most logical BMW comparison in terms of size, price, fuctionality etc. No hybrid but a diesel is available.
