One time remote start fee?
Hello,
I recently received an email from my Lexus dealer as follows:
Does anybody else have received similar email? Is it about key fob remote start or app remote start? One time fee? Sounds nice.

The no subscription FOB only remote has been available for $500 for awhile.

Can you follow up on this? A good 2-way remote starter is $500-600 but you must carry 2 remote controllers so $500 for the Enform and Fob RS this is a good deal.

renovatior - all US cars are able to be enrolled for Lexus Enform Remote
for the 12 month trial. Phone and fob work and also Navigation Live
Operator Assistance, find stolen car etc. After the year it is pay to play,
$350 for all of it, $250 for Safety Connect + remote phone and fob.
If you do not subscribe neither will continue to work.
Torii - An installed fob only system will work forever for free, added resale
value?

What a rip off.
Prior to your trial 12 month enform subscription expiring you can try to deactivate the vehicle's cell service.
This is only about the FOB communication to the car for remote start. A software bit is flipped within the car infotainment to enable/disable.
The only way Lexus can disable the remote start is via cell service or they may have a timer set at time of service enrollment in which case you are screwed.
In either case, $500 is outrageous for something you already purchased.
Their infotainment sucks so bad they should be paying me to use it.

Most of us have $1000+ Flat Screen TV's
Many of us pay $100++/month for Cable or Sat to use them the way they were designed.
So we spend more money per year than we spent to buy the device in the first place!
Why the push back on paying $250/year to use a $50K Lexus the way it was designed?
Yes, Lexus could just charge an extra $1500 for all cars. Would it lose sales of Leasing
customers that would not get the benefit beyond 3-4 years?
I would not pay extra for TV's in the back seat but some guest do chose to.
I don't subscribe to SirusXM because I like iTunes & Pandora but many folks do.

every other car manufacturer provides remote start function from the key fob regardless of whether or not you use their "connected" service.
why does Lexus require you to have a subscription to use your key fob?
I completely understand the fee for the app, but not for the key fob. it's petty for them to kill the key fob remote start and remote window down options if you don't have a subscription to their Enform service.
My Chrysler 300c, Remote start was a $99 option, activated through the FOB
My 2010 Avalanche, Remote start was a $199 option activated through the FOB, and I could opt for the OnStar App service for $250/year but it wasn't required.
My 2012 Camaro, Remote Start was standard on the SS/RS and worked like the Avalanche, on the FOB anytime or through the App for a fee.

I have an aftermarket remote start on my truck, paid $500 12 years ago, its an 05...and it still works flawlessly. But the only time I use it is when its winter and parked outside(its an offroad lifted/customized truck and wont fit in many garages)... I think if your lexus is always parked indoors when its cold out its kinda unnecessary.
