Yes they've definitely come down in the last few years. But they still add $200+ to putting on a separate set of snows.

True, but I like the peace of mind they give especially in this vehicle which accurately displays the pressure of each wheel in the dashboard display.

Folks,

Today was the big day => we got delivery of the NX-200t and my wife is tickled pink. It was a two hour process to get her on the road from time of arrival at the dealer. (I was 2 minutes late getting back to the parking Meter - and you guessed it => a $35 fine and the guy 20 feet away walking down Burrard Street.)

The only real issue was the "specialist who walked her through the features of the vehicle said the Michelin Primacy MXM4 stock tires are Mud & Snow rated and can go anywhere on this car - even up and down the Coquihalla Highway (see earlier post) in heavy winter conditions. I asked if the was the "snowflake" emblem on the sidewall and he said yes. But when he and I looked for them, it wasn't to be found. I checked it again with a Flashlight when we go it home, and no snowflake.

According to TireRack.com "The Primacy MXM4 is Michelin's Grand Touring All-Season tire developed for luxury sedan and coupe drivers looking to combine all-weather handling and traction with good noise and ride comfort. Most Primacy MXM4 tires meet Michelin's Green X standard* for low rolling resistance that confirms the tire's contribution to reducing vehicle fuel consumption and emissions of CO2 gases. The Primacy MXM4 is designed to blend a quiet, comfortable ride, responsive handling and enhanced fuel efficiency with year-round all-season traction, even in light snow." Seems like a decent enough tire for 3 Seasons but not real winter.

The car only had 9 KMs (less than 6 miles) on it when we picked it up. Of course my wife wanted to drive it over to her best Friend's new Condo (they move in tomorrow), so both couples went off to the local Pub for a quick dinner. They too were impressed with the Car. Right now I squeezed it into the Garage and we'll try to toss out some stuff to make more room on the weekend. (We try to have both of our cars inside every night.) I did program the Garage Opener so my wife doesn't have to carry one with her.

Tomorrow I'll start reading the manual.

Congrats, but without pics it didn't happen.

I can assure you the the Primacy are NOT snow tires and are not suitable on the Coquihalla, take it from someone who travels it monthly.

My best!

Cool

Gents,

Got a new wrinkle tossed my way today. I'm trying not to spend $3+K => that's what Jim Patterson Lexus came back with as a quote for Snows on Lexus Rims with TMPS and Taxes => all included. Regency Lexus said $2,300 (I don't know if that was all in.) which I still found pricey.

The new wrinkle was when I talked to a Tech at PMC Tire, he advised all Lexus (and Toyotas and Scions for that matter) controls can only "pair" with 4 TMPS units at a time. So if they supply a complete set (all in as above) the NX-200t would have to have it's controls reset using a Bartec Tool every time I switch tires. (Spring & Fall). Now that would be a pain in butt. He did say it was possible to "clone" the settings of the existing sensors onto the new ones they'd provide, but they are in Quebec and those sensors are here on the car in BC.

The Rims I like so far are direct bolt on ones from RWC (Models LX 95 or LX69) as they use the stock Lug Nuts with no adapters of any kind. I'm leaning towards Michelin X-Ice i2s with Continental Winter Contact SI Tires a close second. The problem is the only one who has either with the RWC Rims is thousands of miles away.

I talked to a Costco Tire Tech who said I could provide my own rims, and they'd supply their generic TMPS ( #7002A) with the Michelin X-Ice i2s; and every Spring & Fall they'd pair them with the Car for free. He said their generic ones have their own address built it (he called it an IP address ) and they can't be cloned over. He did say if I'd supply my own TMPS units they'd charge me a bit more. There were 4 people in line behind me and I had to get back to work so I for got to ask if they could Clone the existing onto Lexus Units (#420607-30060).

I wonder if I could buy the RIMS and TMPS units from PMC Tire and have Costco put it together and onto the Car. That may work out and give me a local service point for the tires if anything goes wrong later.

Congrats! Very nice Color. It was my first choice, but they didn't have any when I leased mine last year. The only one setup the way I wanted was the medium blue
color. I am so glad I went that way! I love the color & get lots of compliments on it because it isn't like so many other Lexus colors. I'm sure she will love her SUV,
& color. I see the Atomic silver as more of a classy color & the Vortec Blue a sporty color!

Thanks NXBlue. It was tough to get her NX the way she wanted it too. Of course we could have ordered one and waited but my Misses is not built that way. When she wants it, she wants it now!

Gents,

I bit the bullet and ordered tires on line from PMC Tirefor 4 Michelin Ice Xi2s and 17 inch RWC LX 95 Hyper Silver Rims. All in was $1781.41 delivered. I'll get $70 off (in 6-8 weeks ) from Michelin. I talked to their Tech (Bruno) a couple of times and they agreed the 17 inch rims & tires were the way to go. They also surcharged me only $15 per wheel to go with Lexus TMPS. Bruno said I won't need to go to a garage and get the tires reset every change - which is what I was trying to avoid.. They said they'll take 5-7 days to get here (Sherbrook Quebec-Metro Vancouver. About 5,000 KMs or 3,000 Miles) via FedEx. Of course FedEx weaseled another day as soon as they picked them up so they are now scheduled to be dropped off in my driveway next Friday. It doesn't help with my Misses that we've gotten our first dump of snow in over 1,000 days earlier this week and she wants them on now...

Sounds good, I am sure they would be helpful now with the unseasonal cold we are having. I think Bruno is wrong about the wheel reset but hopefully for your sake, it can be done. My best!

Gents,

The Tires arrived yesterday afternoon via FedEx. I tracked them across the country, and they were in Metro Vancouver (Delta) by Tuesday! (5 Days from pick-up). But as I paid for regular ground shipment only, they sat at the warehouse in Delta until Friday. The FedEx driver asked why the tires were so heavy (48 lbs. each), as he didn't realise they were fully assembled on Rims with TMPS.

I removed the packing material and at first glance they look great. Hopefully my Misses will part with her NX for an hour later this morning so I can put them on. (Christmas Shopping and all being on her schedule). I'll advise how it goes.

Gents,

It took me a little while but it it's all done. Quite routine which was a blessing. It was certainly evident they hadn't over torqued the lug nuts which was also a joy. What wasn't was Lexus installed a special keyed lug nut on each wheel, so it adds a few minutes to the install. The Tires all had about 25 PSI when received, so I added a bit of air (and no I didn't go for Nitrogen fill) to bring them up to spec. The 17 inch Rims fit just fine, and no clearance issues with the Rotor, Calipers, etc.

I followed the manual and reset the TMPS and it seems to have worked => which was my biggest worry. I test drove it for about 6 blocks and got no warning lights.
