Early Oil/Filter Change???
Hi, We just bought a new 2016 NX200t F-Sport. Had it a week so far. Only have 250 miles and driving it like suggested in the owner's manual. My question is, do folks have an opinion on whether or not to do a low miles (say at 2000 miles) 1st oil/filter change??? Or not... The theory being that perhaps at such an early mileage it might be good to clear out any "new engine debris" that might be generated early on.
Any thoughts??? What are folks doing??? Early change??? If so, at what mileage??? Or just do normal maintenance on normal schedule???
thanks... bob

Been some comments on this topic on other threads.
Best take away from experts is no need to change oil until 10k, but if you feel better doing it sooner, then go ahead.

Our dealer said no need to change until 10k, but that they will do a complementary detail+filter+oil change at 5k, so I'll likely do that even though not required.

If you Google Lexus NX engine break in, you'll have your fair share of opinions on the matter. There's the group that says you don't need to, just follow the scheduled maintenance schedule. Then you have the group that changes around 1000-1200 or 1500 miles. Then you have the group that will do a change early on say around 700-1000 and then another at 2000 or so miles. Lexus does not mention an oil change in the engine break in recommendations. It is all up to you and what you are comfortable with doing. Oil changes are cheap enough to do. It really comes down to whether you want to do it or not. Personally, I will change to Mobil 1 when I hit 1500 miles just because I feel better. Nobody else has to agree with me though. My car, my money, I'll do as I please.

I plan on doing the following ...
1000 miles - 1st oil change using Mobil 1
5000 miles - 2nd oil change using Mobil 1
10,000 miles - oil change at dealer
every 5000 miles after that I will do oil changes using Mobil 1
It's just the way I do it. Cheap to do.

I went in for 5K and its pretty worthless.. they rotated the tires and washed my car.. Maybe filled the wiper fluid (they were supposed to, but I didnt check). The tech did recommend an oil change, but since it wasnt complementary, so I went home and did it myself. Mobil 1 of course.

Every 10k miles. Modern engines have much tighter tolerances then years ago. That means a lot less blow by from the combustion chamber so the oil lasts much longer. With todays synthetics, oil breakdown is not a problem but acids from burnt fuel still is. By minimizing this contamination the oil can last much longer.

I to have a 2016 NX with about 3500 easy mile on it. Then one day if you'll put the shifter to manual shift and use the paddle shifters on the wheel hold the RPM's to 5000 in first and every gear after your see the little 4 cylinder come alive. Do some research about available torque is more than most V6 and some V8's. So enjoy it fun to paddle...... Only draw back is the little 4 is slow to wake up from a start but it will impress once RPM's are in the 4000 to 5000 range......
