Default Rear Wiper Delete

So I didn't really like the look of the rear wiper, and not used much in SoCal. Found a plug at Password JDM, barely fit but it worked. Like the cleaner look with it.

Personally, I think that looks worse.

Plus, what are you going to do now in the rain when your back window is covered in water and road particulate? Such as, the purpose its was there in the first place. I have a hatch right now (mazda3), and driving in the rain, without the wiper I would never be able to see anything in my back window and would most likely hit someone changing lanes.

Function >>> Aesthetics

I agree, without looks better but I need the wiper in the rain.

It looks a little weird.
The wiper should have been placed up underneath the rear spoiler like on the newer RX's.

Agreed that it looks worse, but that is subjective related to taste. However, with respect to visibility, there should be no reason to look out the back window during lane change. That's what side mirrors, shoulder checking is for. How do you think people driving cube vans change lanes? One thing that looking out the back window helps is backing out in or out of parking spots. In those cases, the cleaner the window the better.

Not true at all. You look to your side mirrors for people beside you, you look out your back window to make sure the person behind you isn't doing the same thing you're doing, but faster.

Interesting mod, but in this case I'd take function over form, and keep the wiper/washer in place.

Interesting creative solution to what you wanted to do. I will be leaving mine b/c as someone posted in another thread, the airflow design of the NX seems to accumulate dust/dirt on the rear fairly quickly. Although I did drive several hours in the rain on Saturday and don't recall actually using the rear wiper.

I like the hidden wiper on the RX and was surprised when the old style one appeared on the NX. Where its snowy and icy having it hidden keeps it from being frozen stuck and looks a whole lot better. Was this Lexus' way of saving costs?

Not a fan of the plug, nor the loss of the function. But, hey, if you like it, then that's awesome!

RX has the best clean look and yours is pretty close. Thanks for the post.

I'm usually a fan of wiper deletes but on the fence about it for the NX. As long as you like it - thats all that matters

This is a really old thread but looking to do this. Anyone has the plug locations for the rear panel? I tried searching for the schematics but couldn't find any but found a few people tried without success. There doesn't seem to be any screws holding the panel in which to me makes it harder to remove without breaking something. Thanks!

Was passing an old Nissan 240Z that had the rear wiper arm replaced with a Pep Boy special
"aerodynamic" assembly designed to hold the blade down at high speed... Unfortunately it was
intended for use in the Front not the Rear and the little wing was flapping at least 6 inches up
and down off the rear hatch. Hilarious!

It's funny seeing threads like this on just how different people view things. I personally would leave it. It is 100% functional and if there was no plug or you could get the glass to not have the hole, then I'd say roll with it.. To each their own.

For my STi, it didn't come with a rear wiper. People pay mad money to get the rear JDM glass/wiper combo. $1000+ all the wiring and switch just to say they have a jdm rear wiper for their subie..lol
