Angry Anyone install the NX 200T Tow Package

I had the dealer installed the tow package in my 2015 Lexus NX 200t and discovered that there was no connection for the lights pre-wired in the car. I was told it would cost an additional $500 on top of the $1295 that was quoted as the price installed. Anyone run into this problem?

I am waiting for the aftermarket companies to develop this equivalent tow package at a greatly reduced price.

Sure, you can install this yourself, there were instructions on here not that long ago. Its an afternoon with a buddy, along with a couple ratchets/screw drivers/and some patience.

As for the lights, a quick easy way to do it would be to t-tap into the tail light wiring, It would take some trial and error in order to make sure you're getting a running light and brake light, but this could be done pretty easily I think. Find the right wires, then bundle them together and splice an adapter onto the end that can work with the trailer. Just a temporary fix till something better comes out.

Tow Ready (Hidden Hitch, Draw-Tite, Reese) has one listed on their site along with instructions but I haven't found a retailer who actually has one to sell yet. We gotta be close.

We asked for a hitch as part of our purchase. The dealer found out the next day that an aftermarket hitch was not yet available and the Rav4 hitch wouldn't clear the dual exhaust on the NX. They ordered and installed the Lexus hitch but were shocked to discover there was no wiring on our Premium w/Nav package 200t. The Tow Package comes with the Luxury Package so the dealer swapped our NX for an identical Luxury version and re-installed the hitch on that one. Major learning curve for the dealer. Seems a bit over the top for me as well but for a 1st year model and a turbo with a 70K mile warranty; I am not bucking the system on this one.

Doesn't matter much if you're just using it for a bike rack, but I have a motorcycle that I haul to track days and needed the ability to actually pull a trailer.

I finally got my local dealer to respond with their hitch install quote. Are you sitting down?!
$795.00 dollars installed.
Who in their right mind would pay that kind of money for a standard tow hitch. I will definitely wait for Curts or other popular brands to make one for about $130 - $150 dollars.

considering sewell had the hitch listed at $550 and cable at $255 and my dealer Said list was $800(???) I know it took them over 5 hours to install the hitch,(it replaces the rear bumper). The electrical was even longer, because it is not a plug an play connection as on my rx. When looking to buy the nx I also researched the gla,x3 and q5 all had prices over $800. I guess it a if you want to play you have to pay situation .

Default NX trailer hitch add-on?

I was at the dealer, and learned that an NX without the Luxury package cannot take a trailer hitch without re-wiring the car from the front all the way back (actually that adding a hitch is not the problem, only the wiring). Not something that I really want to do, especially since it invalidates the electrical warranty on the car.

However, no one could tell me whether an NX WITH the Luxury package but WITHOUT the hitch attachment option already has the wiring for the hitch built in?

That can't be true, can it? (not the five hour part, but the "replaces the rear bumper" part)
