We would have seen a lot more folks commenting on the RaV4 setup by now.

Sorry for the previous post's overreaction but that is a weird setup. I tried to explain it to my wife and she seemed confused as well. When I reminded her we typically don't have more than 2 people back there anyway she shrugged her shoulder, said 'weird' and then - 'let's not worry about it then'.

Near miss . . .
We never carry more than 2 people in the rear seat of our RAV4 so can't comment on the center seatbelt. I will say the RAV4 is not a Lexus, and that's why we'll be trading it in on a 300h ASAP.

What a stupid design! I don't think I have 3 people in the back seat too often but if I did I would probably have to skip the NX based on this design.

I'm actually kind of floored about how ridiculous this system is.

Don't mean to over react (sorry - too late ;o). ) but if we end up with the NX I can picture myself showing people the goofiness of that seatbelt system and they would remember that more than anything else about the car.

Well, I guess it's better to know about this before test driving one so I'm not surprised.

Thanks again - good info to know.

Not sure how others feel but this would definitely be a problem if we regularly hauled 3 people in the back seat. Luckily we don't so it's more of just an oddity I guess but I am shaking my head trying to figure this out.
.......very stupid design!

First off, good luck trying to get three people in the back seat. Middle person would be wedged in place anyway. At least the center belt stores in the roof out of the way when not in use.

3 normal people fit fine no problem. Depends on what you class as normal - id say about 80kg is normal. Im 6 ft and I could fit 3 of me in the back, itd be snug but its not impossible.

Haha, what a cutting edge design!

I was wondering why there is a seatbelt connector on the roof when I drove it, but never checked it out. I don't care so much about second row comfort.

I didn't find it that bad when I checked out the NX today and tried it myself as a middle passenger. Then storing it in the roof too was fine. I'd leave it up there since 99% of the time, it's a 2-passenger rear seat. .

Some wont have an issue with it if it rarely gets used. I have a 5 person family so the middle seat is always used on long journeys - found it particularly foolish of Lexus to not go with the "normal" seatbelt design coming from the actual seat!
