Default Moving to San Francisco

My girlfriend and I are planning to move to San Francisco within a year or so. We will be visiting for a few days in September and would like to look at apartments for rent. Does anyone here know of any real estate agents in the area that deal with apartment rentals? Thanks in advance for any advise

I'd be definitely interested to hear your thoughts 6 months after you move here. There have been several people that have chimed in about moving to the Bay Area and the sticker shock is not just on homes but rentals, gas, groceries, services, etc.

Not sure where you got the comparable data but doing a quick search I found Key West median home values to be $525k, which is up 10% from last year. (as of May 2014)

http://www.zillow.com/key-west-fl/home-values/

For San Francisco the median value has topped 1million, which is up 32% and this data is one year old as of May 2013.

Good luck with finding assistance, but I'd say you can start by browsing around on Craigslist.

Hahaha...you have no idea! Be prepared for some serious sticker shock and paying at least 50% more on rent (if you want to leave in SF). Also dont forget to donate 9.3% of your income to Uncle Jerry!
Congrats on the move and good luck.

Probably realistically, $1500 rent will give you a small room and nothing else.

I lived in Berkeley back in the early 2000's, and rent control had just ended. I lived in a converted office room (no closet), about 6 feet by 6 feet. I paid $800/month. I can't imagine what SF rent is like now.

Fun city to visit but not sure why anyone would want to live in SF. There are plenty of reasonably priced alternatives in the Bay Area and then you would have an excuse to drive your car over there.

I am "second generation" Bay Area and love this area but California is expensive for sure.

Welcome!!!!!! We can always use more folks at the meets.....

Where do you plan on working? I assume in SF? Might be a cheaper alternative to live somewhere cheaper and Bart/Caltrain (our subway/train) it to work.

Yes, we don't know his budget, so we're not gonna judge what he can or cannot do, but I'm sure we've enlightened him with some local input.

The old home of Meg Ryan and now ex-Dennis Quaid was on the market this month for $8.9 million and currently the sale is pending.

Ya never know if a CL member could of bought it.

On a more serious note, there are niches of "reasonably" priced rentals all over the East Bay and points further out. If you "need" to work in SF, then being close to BART or a Ferry is a great alternative for some.
