California registration for a 1jz
I'm thinking about buying a 1jz that is from out of state with a t67 turbo. It has a BOV and a bunch of other engine modifications. Is anybody familiar with the registration process at the DMV and if it is possible to get it CA registered?

I can pass smog fine, but I'm worried about a DMV visual inspection. Some sources tell me that they only look at the vin number and they dont care about what's in there, others tell me that they will care and won't issue the registration.

Yeah that's where the problem lies. The swap has already been done. So i'm trying to get it registered with all those parts on it. Returning it to stock then putting the parts isn't really an option for me due to costs.

then go to the most ghetto dmv you can find (oakland) and you will probably be clear. the dmv off of hagenberger in oakland are filled with highschool dropouts or at least they act like it. plus I have never heard of any one having trouble with verification...

Since the 1JZ doesn't have an EGR valve, and it was never offered stateside it wont pass.

Ive got a bunch of friends with a 1JZ in something. If you have it in an SC just worry about "passing smog" if you know what I mean. Unless you are changing the title over on the vehicle then you might be looking at a little more. As long as no one pops your hood then you would go about registering it as if you had a regular 2JZGE.

My car hasn't arrived yet. It's still in Florida where hopefully it hasn't been flooded yet . I'm not worried about the smog and I recently found out that you can have a CHP sign off your visual inspection or a police officer if they've been certified for inspections. That opens up a few more options with people I know, but we'll see once the car arrives, hopefully on the 10th of September.

to reg an out of state car in cali the dmv will visually inspect to see if car is legit, vins match, etc. they do pop your hood and check for emissions vac sticker as well.
its a pretty complicated form that is done in person at dmv (by a dmv worker) when you already have a smog in hand (however you get that is your own issue).
on the form if you have a severely illegal car theres a place for them to check:
- do not proceed, refer directly to CHP (which means you are screwed or your car is hot, etc)
I passed this however with:
a pillar guages
130mm exh
aftermarket afpr
VTA wastegate and BOV
full NA+t turbo kit
big FMIC
the black fmic, and turbo blanket are needed, a very close to stock look is also recommended.
my car is 100% oem NA now (untill the next thing comes in :P), so i dont sweat a thing
