hello NorCal CL.. im not technically or electrically blessed so i need help finding a shop that can install HID on my IS250. could you recommend 1 or 2?

E.M. in Milpitas. They are very nice and a one stop shop. They pretty much have everything in terms of HID install, suspension, wheels, alignment, TC, performance, maintenance, etc.

as far as the HID, im not decided which to get yet. i wanna get the least problematic.

another noob question, does HID turn on when u turn on your headlamps or do you have to flip a switch? sorry but i really dont know how it works.

Yes do it yourself if you can. Aries had a problem with her Xenon Depot HID Kit and it looked like this.



E.M. wanted $85 to take a look at it, I found out the problem and fixed it in 5 minutes and saved her $85.

Wiring up HID kits is usually very very easy.

99% of the time they will be wired up in one of two ways...

1) The included wiring harness will have a relay and a fuse wired inline with plugs for your ballasts and dedicated wires for power, ground, and a switch plug that plugs into the vehicle's halogen light bulb plug.

Here's a picture of a proper wiring harness that has the relay and fuse wired inline.



2) The wiring harnesses come usually connected to the bulbs via some rubber grommets and the ballasts connect directly to your vehicle's halogen light bulb plug and then pass the power to the HID bulbs via another set of wires. This wiring setup is not as safe as the first method and I would not recommend it to anyone due to the high voltage that must pass through the factory wires in order to ignite the xenon gas within the HID bulb.

If you have this type of kit, I suggest you wire up a relay and fuse to power the ballasts.

SC400, honestly, almost any brand is fine now since the technology required to make HID kits is about as low-tech as a 386mhz processor. XenonDepot.com offers a set with philips ballasts and bulbs. If you want a name brand kit, I would definitely go with them. If you don't mind the name brand and are willing to go with a no name brand, you can pick up a HID kit for as low as $175 shipped. At that price, you might as well get two sets so you can get HID fogs!

that's in the ballpark range cause i remember they quoted me that price when I asked earlier this year.

plan to spend about 400-500 for the HID kit + install (labor) unless you can research and make some calls to find out how you can cut your savings down a notch.

I installed my HID myself on both the headlights and foglights on the IS250. Its not hard at all. I have the McCoulluch kit for both and its all just plug and play. If you need any help just PM me, I am from Oakland.

thanks guys for all the help, now i just need to decide what brand and what bulb to go for... personally i just want the light in front of the car brighter.
