Anyone around know how to install it on a 93 LS400? Me and another member would like to install HID's as well. We both have a 93 LS

Because I have the old headlights, I've been told that there may be a glare from the HIDs.

I'm in SF, if anyone can help, that'll be great. How much are the name brand ones and how much for no name brand, any difference between them?

Thanks.

Aight man - I got the info for ya.

With the 93 LS4, you'll need a 9003 HID kit. The 9003 bulb serves a dual function as a low and high beam bulb so if you switch to HID's, you'll lose your high beams.

That being said, many HID bulbs that replace dual purpose halogen bulbs come with a metal shield on the bottom so the light doesn't spread to the reflective areas that are normally reserved for high beams.

I can't speak for the 9003 kit that comes from xenondepot.com kit (philips) but I've seen other kits that come with metal shields to help hide the light and the cutoff is pretty impressive. But you HAVE to get a HID bulb with dimensions that are very very very similar to your halogen bulb.

Here's a comparison of my no-name HID kit bulb compared to a halogen bulb. You see how the filament and the gas pocket are near the same height from the mounting point? That tells you that you will have minimal glare. There may still be glare but nothing like a bulb that is designed poorly. I picked up a philips kit 2 years ago and it produced a lot of glare which is why I swapped them out.

As far as price is concerned, plan on spending anywhere between $370-$400 for a name brand kit. Xenondepot.com, one of our sponsors, offers philips kits for around this price. For the no-name brands, I've seen them go for as low as $160-$170. If you get a no name kit though- make sure it comes with the proper wiring harness. You'll want one that has a fuse and relay wired inline otherwise your electrical system will be powering the ballasts and that can be risky since these bulbs require a ton of power to fire up.

Here's a picture of the wiring harness.

Good luck.

Yeah, self-install is the best deal! Seriously, it's not that hard. Save some cash and do it yourself.

Default What was the cause of the distorted beam pattern?

What ended up being the cause of your beam pattern? And does anyone having trouble fitting the hid bulb in the socket ?

Cause of the beam is because the bulb was not all the way in the socket. Solution is take off the two rubber o-rings that are on the base. GL
