How Strict on Tint in NJ?
Hi folks,
So with my impending move into the area, I started to research potential issues I would have with taking my car there.
I'll primarily be in NJ, but would probably drive to Philly on occasion (definitely not driving into NYC though). Currently, I have 35% in the front and 20% in the back on a silver car so it doesn't look too dark. But being that I'll already stand out with CA plates, I'd rather just avoid the hassle and take the front film off before the move if it were going to be an issue.
Aside from the tint and plates, I don't have any mods that bring a whole lot of attention. 6000k headlights and fogs are about it, everything else is stock
Thanks in advance

Really depends, I know a lot of people who drive around with tints and don't have issues. But if the cop really wants to screw you, that would be an item he can get you with.
But at the end of the day, if a cop really wanted to get you for something he or she will find something. I got a ticket for my WORK license plate frame obstructing the word NJ on my license plate. Also got another fix it ticket back in the day for my college parking pass hanging off my rear view mirror as it would obstruct my view.

I have 35% tint all around (except windshield.. lol) with no front plates and I live in E. Brunswick
Only Milltown cops you would have to worry..... They are a small town and are really enforcing the laws...
But then most places around central NJ (Brunswicks, Edison... etc etc) are all good

I have 35% all around I live in Holmdel. Again it depends on the town I've been pulled over three times for tints, one from state trooper and second from a town cop in Red Bank and the third time in Elizabeth. State trooper, and Red Bank cop let me off since I'm military. However Elizabeth i received 2 tickets one for no plate in the front and tints.

In my case I still had my primary residence in FL so I was able to renew my registration there. Plus no inspection in FL. You can also see if you qualify for an medical exemption and keep your tint http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Licenses/sunscreening.htm
