Default January '14 - Please NUMBER and post your pics of the month here

Some family members decided to take the train to San Diego so this was a nice opportunity for some train practice shots. Used the 5D-C since it was along. Wish it had higher fps and better write capabilities. Filled the buffer so it ceased to fire just as the train came into a good spot.

A vertical wall of purple hydrocoral at Farnsworth Bank on the backside of Catalina Island. Picture was taken at 120' deep.

I really wanted to see the Catacombs in Paris when I was there over the summer but the line was too damn long!

A few train shots with the 5D-C and 50/1.4.

3.

Enough of my cycling buddies have ridden to San Diego and taken the train back into OC or LA. Usually a good century+, I've not felt that ambitious. Seeing this guy I was envious of his ride.

pretty simple really.

1. get an IR filter
2. do some long exposure shots on sunny days...and you will get a RED picture
3. correct for WB in photoshop
4. mix the colors by using the Channel Mixer
5. Edit to taste

I used the HOYA R72 filter for this but I'm not sure why I'm getting a hot spot in the center of the image. My guess is that since I used a step up filter there's more glare?? anyone more knowledgeable with optics can sort this out for me?

But anyways, yes this was a really fun experiment. Hardly something I'm proud of just yet. I'm just pretty stoked I managed to get the effects somehow right.

I've been shooting with the 5D-C lately and had forgotten how the 5D-III can be in use. I had originally wanted to get some shots at X-mas time when it is decorated and illuminated in festive colors. Didn't happen. So I wandered over today and snapped a few off. Was disappointing to see how worn the fountains have become over the years.

One of the few times I would venture out mid-day. The shadows work well except for the fountain where the building shadow makes the exposure more challenging. What i wanted to shoot were the dolphin statues but that fountain was under maintenance.

A new venture into snapping away. Niece is into the golf scene and they were visiting a local driving range.
