Thought I'd posted this, but it hasn't shown up yet. Dropped my '02 LS430 off for 85k servicing and some minor warranty work this evening. Asked service manager for his suggestions. He said to clean the top of the window as well asthat strip good and then use a silicon lubricant spray on the strip. Will try it later this week when I get it home and post results.
