Lexus third least expensive to maintain
Funny how Lexus is behind Toyota and Scion.

Lexus is certainly cheap for me to maintain. This has worked for over one million miles between two cars. I was traveling about 40,000 miles a year while working. Every 10,000 miles I ask for an oil change and tire rotation at the Lexus dealership. This should be less than $100. Every 30,000 miles the brake fluid needs to be changed and again about $100. Every 20,000 miles, I change the air and cabin filters. This combined takes five minutes and the air filter can be bought on line at Lexus Parts World for $18. The cabin air filter can be bought at Walmart for $18, It is the Fram Fresh Breeze #10285 with carbon and baking soda to filter the air. Wiper blade inserts again can be bought at Lexus Parts World for $20 for both refills and takes five minutes to replace. You are done until 100,000 miles. At Lexus Parts World use cl5 in the promo code for 10% discount. If you go in and ask for the 10,000, 20,000 30,000 maintenance you will be paying big bucks for a lot more items you do not need checked and inspected. Once a year replace the key fob battery cr2032. Keep receipts for everything. I take my oil filter bought at Lexus Parts World ($5) and 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 purchased at Walmart for $24 to my local Toyota dealer and they charge me $15 labor.

Can anybody explain why a Toyota dealer would do this? I got the same idea from this forum. So I call up the Toyota dealer to see if they can install lower control arm bushings on a LS430, since Lexus wants $1,400. I tell them I have my own bushings--no problem. They quote me $700 in labor. I said I was thinking more along the lines of $150 (indie wants $250). So from my experience, Toyota dealerships overcharge (they charge more for a state inspection than the BMW dealer, who provides a free loaner). So in this case, why are they willing to accept $15 for their time? Just curious...and I'm cynical, how do I know that Mobil 1 didn't go into the trunk of a tech's car?

These results are to maintain. My maintenance cost for the first 100,000 breaks down like this. I always get the items needing replacing and never go in and ask for a 10,000 mile or 30,000 service. If you go in and ask for the 10,000, 20,000 30,000 mile maintenance you will be paying big bucks for a lot more items you do not need checked and inspected. Ten oil changes every 10,000 miles at a cost of $500. Mobil 1 jug bought at Walmart for $25, oil filter bought at Lexus parts World $5 and labor cost at Toyota dealership $20. . Every 30,000 miles the brake fluid needs to be changed about $100. Every 20,000 miles change the air and cabin filters. This combined takes five minutes and the air filter can be bought on line at Lexus Parts World for $18. Adding all these maintenance items for the first 100,000 equals $1,160. For the amount of miles I drive in a year that is $1,160 for 5.5 years or $210 a year.

As to why they are willing to do your oil change for $15, probably because it takes no more than 10 minutes on their end. That's about $90/hr which seems reasonable.
