Default anybody use Castrol GTX HIGH-MILEAGE oil ?

I been using regular Castrol GTX (not syntec) but last time I visited Auto zone, I noticed that they have GTX HIGH-MILEAGE motor oil. What's the difference btwn them? I have now 160k miles and it is high-mileage.
so wondering if I should try "high mileage oil". anybody has any info?

Hi Taka! Based on a CL recommendation, I tried Valvoline MaxLife Motor Oil on my last oil change. I can't really tell any difference in power or noise level, but my wallet sure knew the difference. That stuff sells for twice the price of regular oil - a real marketer's dream, since whatever useful additives, if any, that might be in this oil only costs pennies a quart.

I know there's lots of dissenting opinions out there, but I doubt that the brand of oil used has any significant effect on the longevity of your engine. Far more important is how often your oil is changed.

CL member Peter Scott of Australia reached the same conclusion after analyzing several batches of oil he used in his SC, even going so far as to say not to bother with the extra expense of synthetic oil, as long as you change your dino oil frequently.

that's what exactly what my friend (works at Toyota) told me about oil. He uses cheap oil that he can get for free from his Toyota place but he changes like every 1000-2000 miles.
I was curious about this GTX High-miileage because my k-mart has them for $1/each and if you get whole case (12-QT) you'll receive $5 Kmart cash card or something..
it's true, there're many discussion which oil is better but if I can find good deals on decent brand oil, I'll use them. Since I been using GTX for 2yrs, I just stick with this brand.

I was told it has some seal swelling additives to help with older engine seals that are prone to leak. If your car isn't leaking oil, probably not worth the extra $$$.

If your car doesnt have high mileage i wouldnt bother with it. As long as you keep up on your maintenance majority of oil synthetic will be perfectly fine. Though I never go 10k miles as some cars might.
