Me? Nope. After talking to a few friends who worked in a place like the ones described... never. WHY? Because he straight up told me that sometimes he doesn't bother to change the filter. Just drain and fill.

With me doing oil changes, wither its my car, family or girlfriend I rather do it myself because its for sure that it was done right. Keep in mind, my parents/girlfriend are habitual offenders when it comes to not doing oil changes on time and forgetting until I remind them to do so.

I'd say do it yourself as it only takes a few minutes and it's such an important aspect of our engine to function properly.

Hey if they don't change your filter, and your engine gets sludged up because of the bad filter etc. or they don't put ur drain bolt all the way back in (had it happen a few times on my dads truck) and the oil starts leaking out or worse comes to worse the drain bolt falls out on the road and your engine blows, would insurance cover it or would you have to sue the shop?

I've been wondering this if something like that were to happen. How would you take care of it? (especially since quite a few shops apparently do hackjobs when it comes to a simple oil change)

I have had good luck with 10 Minute oil change places. I use to work at Wal-Mart Tire and Lube Express ten years ago and they are hit or miss. It was afun job out of high school into my first year of college. It made me realize that Toyota's were the best cars out there along with Honda. I use to do all my own oil changes on the 1st gen IS with Mobil one. The Gen2, I take in because of the mess the canister filter makes without a lift. Just watch them closely.

Typically, I would not take my car there, BUT...My steering wheel was extremely loose and I could here my power steering pump making a weird noise. I rolled into the closest place I could.....M***S. They could have easily raped me on this, but surprisingly called me at work and told me that my rack and pinion had two missing bolts. They replaced them for $50 and I was in shock.

A week later a friend of mine had an issuse with his brakes and reluctantly went to them as well, since they're close to work....try tried to rape him! We got it towed to our typical shop and got it done right.

Stay away from those places unless it's routine maintenance you don't want to bother with or it is an absolute emergency.
