seat belt problem 95LS400
k..here's another small problem (in addition to the broken mirror & no-working heated seat)
passenger-side seatbelt doesn't tension properly when the vehicle is running and the belt
is plugged in. unplugging the belt, causes it to retract, but when it's plugged in, it doesn't
tension up. this causes it to go slack - if the passenger leans forward, the belt pulls out
but doesn't go back when the passenger leans back in the seat.
any idea what would cause this
thanks

That thread has a lot of info. My driver belt does the same exact thing, if you unbuckle it tensions, otherwise it does not. I took the entire unit apart and there was nothing that could be fixed. I had to order a new seatbelt. I recommend you do the same. It'll be ~$150 and can easily be installed by yourself.

this is the wierd thing though. i would trace the problem to something electrical - like
some sort of seat belt buckle switch. and for this reason...
With the ignition on and seatbelt buckled, it will play out but won't retension.
If I unbuckle the belt, it retensions - this would lead me to suspect something in the
buckle sends a signal to the tensioner. You can see that there is an LED in the
buckle - it is lit up green.

Well mine would tension a little bit if I unbuckled but not enoguh for it to compltely sduck itself up. I think it has two tension modes, when it's unbuckled it's supposed to roll up real quick and hard and when it's buckled it's supposed to be more gentle. When it wears out I think the slower tension (when it's buckled) pretty much dies out.
I get my new part today or tomorrow and will try it.
I hope to hell that it's not something electrical like that cause then I would've wasted my money on a new belt.

Ralph I had the exact same problem you did, and I got my new replacement belt today. After the install the belt is working 100% like it should.
Unfortunately, I got the wrong color. I told them I had a grey interior, he said bluish grey, I said that sounds right. Well now that it's in there I see I needed a greenish grey.
