93 ls cabin filter change
#2
I believe it is under the glove box. Remove that housing and Remove two wing nuts and lower cover from cooling and blower unit. Pull the rear air filter downward. Before the filter touches the floor carpet, bend the filter upward. And I am not sure but I think their are 2 - a rear and a front filter.

i'll give it a shot
thanks. i will try it tomorrow. I did not think to look there, but this leads me to another question. I have my dash disassembled while my clock lcd is being fixed. When you pull out the top 2 center vents there is a black screen looking thing behind there. Mine is totally clogged and I thought that was the cabin filter. anyone know what it is?

thanks spxChrome
you are exactly right. i removed the housing under the glove box and there were 2 wing nuts which had to be removed to get to the filters. There were 2 of them an by the looks of them they had NEVER been changed. They were filthy. I shoud have paid more attention during the removal because i am not sur i will be able to get the new ones back in there. thank you for the info. i really do appreciat it!

Filter info
1. For 93 LS, the filter was kind of "unique" so I guess you will have to buy it from the dealer. I bought mine from Bell Lexus via mail order (602.866.3300 and ask for David). I don't remember the exact price but they were something like $35- $45. It was a two unit filter with factory 90 deg fold/bend in the middle. The two filters also have sides that allow them to lock tight together.
2. Installation: The filter "insert slot" is wide enough for only one so install them one at a time. a) bend the filter at the fold then insert the first one in (you will have to bend at the fold because the filter was too tall). Once you get the first half in, straight out the second half then keep pushing it up until it stops. You now use a couple of your fingers to slide/push it horizontally to the side to make room for the second one. b) repeat the same procedure for the second one but you only need to push it up vertically. Once the second one goes up and stops, you're done. Just make sure that you match the sliding lock rail/tab on the sides of the filters because the final result should be a "locked" together of the two.
3. You now will be amazed of how much better the air flow is, even as the lowest fan speed.
Cheers.

no filters in the 92
i also have a 92 ls400. there were a few subtle changes from 92-93, one being the new filters in the 93. the 93 also got a digital odometer, outside temp control, and a few other things i cant think of right now.

Got my filters from the dealer today for $42. Getting the cover off was a pain but pretty smooth after that. Air flow is a big difference now. My filter probally hadn't been changed in 10 years. It was full of all kinds of trash.

If it is the same year it problly can't be to far off. But I am not sure, call the Lexus department and tell them you want to buy a Air Cabin Filter and see what the product code is. If it is the same as the the LS then i probally is located in the same place.

Actually, I think it is a different filter for the SC400 becuase the one for LS400 is only $45
