what's the old proverb: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of flesh (or something like that)

just change the oil filter with every oil change. (every 3k with dino or 5k with synthetic).
The cost for the filter far out weighs the possible costs of not changing it.

Thanks for your help guys!! I have synthetic oil thats supposed to last 7,000 miles...

Recommend you don't use cheap filters...they are made with cheap components, and they do not filter as effectively as premium filters. The insignificant cost for a better filter is money well spent in the long-run. Ed
