Tranny Bumps when I give it gas - 93 es300
My 93 es300 has a slight "bump" when you are rolling and go from no throttle to throttle. It is caused by slack in the tranny, and definitely not the motor mounts. I've inspected all the motor mounts, they're fine. I lifted the front and when I would rotate the wheels there is an obvious slack.
Any ideas on a solution? My assumption is that I would probably need to buy a new tranny, but I thought I'd ask.
Thanks.

Yeah, I originally questioned that as well. But, when I lift the front and rotate the wheel back and forth it looks as though there is integrity between the wheel and entry into the tranny.

hmmmmm. well let's consider that when the car is on the ground both wheels are in motion so the diff would not be to blame i wouldnt think. if reversing the wheel on one side showed an amount of play between the time you rotated the first tire and the time the second tire moved it would show a faulty diff or a faulty cv on one side, but when the tires are both on the ground and moving forward the diff isn't really in action quite like that so i would think the gear mesh would have the play in it. if the diff is going in one direction and both wheels are locked going forward and there is still play i can't think of any other reason aside of only ONE faulty cv or play in the internal gear mesh.
I'm not really qualified to say, but logic brings me to that reasoning.

mike,
try to do the tranny flush and see where that goes. sorry to say, but from experience, i doubt it is a cure-all for your symptoms. However, if it's been a while since you changed the ATF, and if the fluid remains red after several months and several thousand miles after this next flush, I'd say it's not a totally hopeless situation. Tranny problems on the ES are sooo common...
