Question maintence

i am about to have my 99 gs 400 lexus taken in for the 90k tune up. I have had the timing belt changed already. Could i take it to a valvoline oil change station and have my rear end dif fluid changed and also the trans fluid done.l I mentioned if i would need different tranny fluid and he said no. They have some good prices and the guy their told me the local lexus/toyota place used these fluids. I am wondering if this could save me some dollars and also same me some time and worry. I am not looking to get the cheaper way out, but then again if i can pay someone to do something cheaper for the same thing. I could save myself self several hundred dollars. I am planning on putting teins on soon, so i am not worried about suspension. Any thoughts and comments. Theys said it sounds good, and everything checked out great.

"They have some good prices and the guy their told me the local lexus/toyota place used these fluids"
what fluid? the dealer may used Vavoline for engine oil, but I would sue them if they use non-Toyota oil on transmission.

If I was you, I will go to Toyota or Lexus and get my own fluild, bring it to them and tell them to use those and sit there looking at them to see every move that they make.

No one but toyota carry OEM fluild. Look like that guy that you talked to does not know what he was talking about.

"my rear end dif fluid changed and also the trans fluid done"

Diff: you can use Red Line or Amsoil, I seriously think that your local shop have it, they may have Valvoline 75W, which is compatible but in no way compare to the the real synthetic fluild, I don't know of any regular shop who carry full synthetic fluild, but I don't know much, because I don't let them touch my car ever hee hee

Trans: ATF Type T-IV, no one have compatible oil to these but Toyota.

I used Amsoil 75W-90 for the differential. Instruction on how to do it yourself posted on my site. Lexus does charge some ridiculus price, but there are alot of shop out there that don't really understand Japanese car, just be careful. Heck, I don't even trust Lexus to work on my car, hee hee.

I do not know about your differential fluids, but I would not put anything but a synthetic in for your ATM fluid. Toyota uses its own Type-IV synthetic. I have a friend down here with an ES300 who had to have his car towed back to San Antonio (no Lexus in Mexico, just Toyota but they could not do a thing), because Toyota put in Esso regular ATF instead of Toyota Type-IV. Makes a BIG DIFFERENCE.

I do not think you could do too bad with Mobil 1 ATF either.
