1992 ES300/Windom Radiator / coolant system flush
I've not had much luck in the ES300 forum so thought I'd try here......
The coolant in my 1992 ES300 / Windom is pretty grotty.... Looks like previous owner never changed it and probably same goes for the 2 owners before that!
So I need to drain/flush the bad stuff out and get some nice new Toyota red coolant in there
Does anyone happen to have a picture of the hoses to use to stick a garden hose in to flush the coolant system??? I think I know which ones it is but I could be wrong!! The attached photo has an arrow pointing to the location of the hose's I think I should use to flush everything out....
I'm not having much if any luck finding the drain plugs on the block... I've found the plug on the radiator but that's it.... The state of the stuff in the coolant system is really bad so to get as much out as possible, I'm going to have to flush with the garden or fire hose as I can't drain it out of the block as the drain plugs are hiding from me...
I've purchased a spill free funnel for refilling the coolant system....
So can someone offer some advice??? I've looked for videos but can't seem to find one on the 3VZ-FE es300s, camry or windom/

When it gets to this point, disconnecting the radiator hoses completely and removing the thermostat are the way to go...
You don't need Toyota red, it didn't even exist when that car was made, just a good universal extended life coolant will suffice just fine...

I've already got 4 litres of Toyota Red so I might as well use it...
I was going to pull the lower radiator hose when I flush it....
I just need to know that the place I plan to stick the fire hose is the right one... (the pic above where the arrow points there is 2 hoses that disappear into the firewall - I presume one in one out...) I was going to stick the fire hose in one point one way then the other way so the water goes everywhere...
Do you need to run the engine when flushing it with a hose??? Or do you just do it with engine off?
I was just going to do it with engine off... is that the way to go?
I was going to stick a bottle of radiator flush treatment in the system just before I do it, and run the engine for 10-15 mins (as per instructions)
How hard is replacing the thermostat??

Before you do anything, drain enough coolant to get the flush chemical in there...
let it run 10-15 minutes after it gets up to operating temperature
let it cool completely, pull thermostat, run lots of water through it - with the thermostat in place, water won't flush through engine cold, do the same with the radiator...
4 litres isn't going to cut it - pretty sure that stuff is premixed, you'll need 2-3 gallons, 8-12 liters...
I can't tell from that picture, but that isn't where the heater hoses usually are, they are usually on the passenger side...

The red coolant is the concentrate stuff.... (the stuff that they used before the pink). I've got 4L of red which they say mix 50/50. I've got heaps of distilled water to go with it.
I'm in New Zealand, we have right hand drive vehicles so where the arrows point in that picture is the passenger side for me.. (I'm not sure if things get reversed on LHD & RHD cars...???)
So when I flush with the thermostat pulled am I doing it with the engine running or not?
