Default Trans fluid leak at Radiator connection

1993 LS400

Anyone run into a very minor transmission fluid leak at the passerger side connection to the radiator (bottom). Looks like it is the fitting as opposed to the hose. I'm a little afraid to mess with the fitting since it seems to go into plastic on the radiator bottom. Is it removable/replaceable. Can I take it out - clean it and reinstall?? Thanks for any info - Herm

well, you need to do your own hw. The plastic connection is not likely the cause of the leaking unless it's broken. The cause of the leaking is more likely due to the hose or the hose clam (simple fix)

if the plastic connection is leaking then either it is cracked or it's a removable part, since only removable parts can cause leak

BananaGS - I'm not sure what you mean about doing my own hw. Perhaps I did not explain well enough. The leak is not from the hose to fitting junction. It is from the fitting to radiator junction - I can see fluid seeping out between the fitting and the radiator- it has nothing to do with the hose.

My question is: Is the fitting an integral part of the radiator (ie molded in) OR is it a removeable (threaded in). I did search through the 93LS service manuals which I purchased but I was not able to find any info. Just asking if anyone else ran into this particular problem - Thanks

The thread in the radiator is metal. Get a box wrench, the one that looks like an open end wrench but only has small opening so you can slide through the pipe, and tighten it a little more.
You need to wash/clean the area first and make sure that where the leak come from. Do not use the open end wrench to tighten the nut. Sound like you don't know much about car so I don't recommend open end wrench, you might stripped the nut...

Since you live in NJ, you can stop by my house and I'll let you borrow my wrench to tighten it. Clean it first before you making the trip over here

VQT - Thanks for the info. Glad to hear that the fitting threads into metal in the radiator. The outer radiator bottom housing is plastic which is why I could not tell from looking at it. Sounds like you are suggesting I tighten the fitting with a flare wrench. I have a set of these and will give it a try.

Yes, I guess it call flare wrench. Don't tight too much, just a little and drive a few days to check for leak...
