Default 95,000 mile Maintence

Hey CL Members;

My 95,000 mile Maintence is coming up soon. So my 1995 SC400 will have the following items changed:

-Timing Belt
-Anti-freeze flush and fill
-Water Pump
-Fuel Filter
-Spark Plugs

Any other things should I change for my 95,000 mile maintence that I should know about?

You can probably add distributor cap and wires.

If you change the distributor caps, you might as well install new rotors. PCV valve??

SC,

Why the spark plugs? Were they done at 60? If so, then not needed till 120k. If you wait till 120k then I would do the dist caps and rotors. Ditto for the fuel filter...if it was done at 60 its not needed till 120.

Also, unless your water pump is leaking....just have the timing belt inspected. It takes about 5 minutes to pop the cover off and inspect the belt. I would wait till 120k and do it all...timing belt, seals, wp, idler pulleys, tensioner, plugs, cap and rotors. You will not damage anything by waiting till 120...I keep inspecting the belt in our 92LS and at 135k it still looks good and has never been changed. I do have all the Lexus parts sitting here and have plans to change everything listed above this spring. But, it just goes to show how long this stuff lasts.

I disagree on the water pump. CHANGE IT!!! It's better to be safe than sorry, and if it's busts, you can't drive your car, and they'll charge you another $600 or whatever just for labor to get to it. While your at the timing belt, you might aswell spend the extra $100 and change the water pump jsut to be safe. Like I said, if it brakes say in a couple months by some chance... your screwed...

Sxylxy,

Relax, its Christmas.

Please read my post again. I said this...

Inspect the timing belt at 90k

Replace everything at 120k...including the "wp" which means the water pump.

Wut up gents. I'm glad I stopped in this forum to get some opinions. I was going to post a request for opinions on a 1993 SC300 5MT but it seems like my questions have been answered.

There's a model available near my house in a dealership about half a mile away. It's a 93 SC300 with 5MT and 100K miles ... price can't be beat: $6900 (I'm sure I can negotiate down to around $6000).

I abit worried about the high mileage and the inevitable need to do some serious replacements and repairs: clutch, timing belt, water pump. Those can add up on Lexus. How much can I expect to pay for a timing belt/water pump repair? It cost $400 on my old Mazda Miata.

But after reading what you guys wrote, I'm fairly confident this car will make me happy for a few years as I try to save up money for a newer set of wheels.

If anyone has any further input ... good or bad, please post here regarding the 1993 SC300.

Have a great holiday.

Reply to 9inarow..take the car to Lexus dealer and get a pre-purchase inspection($80.00). Let them check the car out and give you list and cost to repair. Make sure the car has no major body damage, the paint condition,etc...

VTT, much obliged. I will do that. I looked at the car last night, and it's in immaculate condition. Looks like it was never driven. Insane. I'm pretty psyched. It'll make a great holiday gift for myself.

Thanx for your help.

Regarding the 93 SC300MT, you'll of course find out it's history and service records. Sounds like a sweet deal. Being a Northeast car, look carefully for rust. Having lived in Vermont for a great part of my life, I grew to hate working on cars up North. Now that I'm in Dallas, my biggest concern is the paint and cracking of the upholstery due to the hot sun. It's a real thrill to take an exhaust system apart without breaking all of the nuts on the U-bolts.
