Replacing the main seal
Has anyone done this before and have any tricks\tips? Mine is seeping.
Step 1 - Get the service manuals, right? Definitely doing that before I get my hands dirty.
Anything to check and replace while I got the engine apart? Things to watch out for? Thanks guys.
I haven't done this before. I'll be working with a friend who said that on some cars it's easy and on others it's a real pain so I wanted to know what to expect.
I have a 93 GS300 with 49k miles. Just FYI, the dealer will do it for $830.

Seeping?
Is it leaking enough that you need to top off the oil level between changes? By how much?
You might want to just ignore it, you can buy a LOT of engine oil for $830.

Personally..
I'd put a drip pan under it when it's in the garage and not bother with it unles/until it does get "worse". It may not get worse.
And by the way the only experience I have had with a Lexus rear engine seal failing (a teaspoon/night) was immediately, the next day, after the car, a 91 LS, went in for the 90k service. The dealer didn't think that anything they could have done would have resulted in the seal failing so suddenly, and basically I had to agree.
Cost me about $1000.
I later learned that if the LS is over-filled with engine oil and then run that way for even a short period then this is a very common result.
