Default Using 87 Octane in 1990 LS400

I know that for the LS400's it says PREMIUM unleaded fuel only.. but what happens if you just use 87 octane? does it lessen the engine life or what?

Actually, premium, relative to the cost of regular unleaded, has never been cheaper. Since most gas stations still have a 10 cent spread between grades, percentage wise premium is only 2.5% more expensive than regular. It used to be 5 to 6 % more expensive than regular.
