Does anyone know what is included in the 20k mile service. Is it worth it to get it done at lexus or should i go elsewhere. Im trying to conserve money in this slowing economy weve all been seeing and i know lexus usualy charges plenty. Thanks for your responce. Im sittung at 20k just waiting to see what i should do.

Mike - At 20k, the Lexus guide says to change the oil & filter & rotate your tires. U should also inspect all fluid levels, brakes, air filter & belts/hoses - basically eyeball them as that's all I've ever seen my techs do. Real simple & alot cheaper if ya do that little bit of work yourself!

It's not a waste of money if you consider your warranty and resell of your car.people do you know that this car has a huge resell value that people look at service history FROM THE DEALER. think about that

I pulled into Jiffy Lube to have my oil change for the 20k mile. Im trying to save cash instead of going to the dealer. Jiffy lube tells me they need a certain part to get the oil filter out and Lexus/Toyota hasnt released it. He finishes by saying that only choice is to get it changed at the dealer. Is this true?

Mike - I think Jiffy Lube just doesn't want to work on a Lexus as all it takes is a standard oil filter wrench ( either cup or band style ) to remove the filter. It takes more time to remove that undercover than the filter itself. As far as having ONLY the dealer do the maintenance, it's more of a matter of convenience that all maintenance records are at one location than necessity as long as U keep the records for resale or warranty purposes. My friend with the shop I do all my work at also sells used rides & he says that as long as U have the receipts from the work being done ( a bit of a pain ) & on time, it really doesn't matter who does the work. My dealer says it doesn't matter to them when they take a Lexus in on trade because they have to go over it anyway to see if it's eligible for the Lexus Certification program. Just keep your paperwork in a file & U'll be fine. BTW - does anyone else have a problem of getting their Lex worked on? Even my Toyota dealer won't look at my GS - I think he's intimidated by the Lexus marquee. When I jokingly asked him about an oil/filter change ( I do 95% of the maintenance myself ), he advised me to take it back to my Lexus dealer ( over 100 miles away! ). I can understand if it involves special tools or software but an oil change?? Buncha cowards!!!!!

Unless Lexus did something very strange to their cars since my '98 GS400, somebody at that Jiffy Lube is smoking funny cigarettes.

As far as I know there is nothing special needed to remove the oil plug or to change a Lexus oil filter.

I've had my oil changed at third-partys like Jiffy Lube every time and never had a problem.

Try another shop.

Hi Iam a Lexus diagnostic specialist for a 11 years I dont see aproblem with going else ware to change your oil but I do recomend you buy the lexus oil filter there are two different sizes for our vehicles one for the six cylender and one for the eight cylender.

As a Lexus tech I'd appreciate more of your input on this.

Can you tell us what's different about the Lexus filter?

Why not use one of the other well-thought-of brands like the M1?

Do you see significant differences in the engines of cars whose oil has been frequently changed, but used third-party filters?

What's your opinion on synthetics?
