Check Engine Light '97 es300
My check engine light lit up last night while driving =( Local shop wants $25 for the code read-out. Is this reasonable? I've heard autozone does it for free but just wanted to make sure I'm not being scammed for $25. Yes call me cheap but if its out there for free, why not lol
Thanks!
Thanks!

Yes, AutoZone will read your code for free. My uncle here charges $100 pesos or about $10 USD to read the code and if possible delete it. Toyota as I recall charges about $250 pesos or $25 USD here to read the code and I had that done a few times before I got my own scanner and learned the trick about pulling the EFI fuse in your engine fusebox to try to clear the code, https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...8&postcount=15

The check engine light on my '97 ES kept coming on too and I kept pulling the EFI fuse. Finally went to Advance and the code was an oxygen sensor.
Had it replaced at Toyota for about $200? They would have charged
$70 to do the diagnostic.

Thanks Lexmex! I guess I'll head out to Autozone this weekend...Hopefully it will be something I can fix myself...
I figured the dealer would've charged an arm and leg for the reading...that is crazy!
